Our history

It All Started With Craftsmanship

The story of Capricorn Art Works Pvt. Ltd. began in 1946 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, with a skilled craftsman named Kalu Singh Bhati. Known for his exceptional ability to work with wood, steel, and other materials, he built his reputation through patience, precision, and an uncompromising approach to craftsmanship.

His journey into gunsmithing and firearm manufacturing began unexpectedly when a firearm belonging to the then King of Marwar developed a malfunction that others were unable to repair. Kalu Singh Bhati was called upon to examine it. His ability to understandthe mechanism and successfully restore the firearm marked the beginning of a new chapter.

With this recognition came the opportunity to enter licensed firearm manufacturing. The early workshop focused on single-barrel shotguns, gradually expanding its capabilities as future generations joined the business.

Over the decades, the workshop developed expertise across multiple firearm platforms, including double-barrel, pump-action, and semi-automatic shotguns, while preserving the craftsmanship and attention to detail that defined its beginnings.

In 2018, Capricorn Art Works Pvt. Ltd. was established to carry this heritage into modern firearm manufacturing.

Combining traditional gunsmithing knowledge with contemporary manufacturing processes, the company began developing and producing its own pistolplatforms in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

Today, Capricorn continues this legacy through a growing range of Indian-manufactured pistols, bringing together heritage, precision engineering, and modern manufacturing standards.
From a craftsman’s workshop in 1946 to a modern Indian firearm manufacturer , the journey continues.

About the Owner

Jagmohan Singh Bhati, Director of Capricorn Art Works

Jagmohan Singh Bhati

Jagmohan Singh Bhati grew up around his family’s workshop, where he spent time with his grandfather, Kalu Singh Bhati. From an early age, he was drawn to machines, materials, and the process of makingthings from the ground up. Although his professional journey took him into furniture manufacturing, his interest in firearms and shooting remained close to him. Over the years, he built extensive experience in manufacturing, production, materials, and design. In 2018, he brought that experience together with his family’s long history in firearms to establish Capricorn Art Works, with a vision of building a new generation of Indian made pistols.

Manufacturing Facility

Where Craft Becomes Engineering.

Then: 1990

Then: 1990

By 1990, the small workshop Kalu Singh Ji started by hand had grown into a real manufacturing facility. But the work was still deeply manual. Every piece was shaped, measured and finished by hand, guided by decades of skill rather than digital precision. It was slower. It was harder. And it produced firearms that earned their reputation the honest way, through the hands of craftsmen who had spent a lifetime learning exactly how much pressure, how much patience and how much care each piece demanded.

Now

Today that same discipline runs through a facility built around modern precision manufacturing, from CNC machining to CAD based design to careful quality checks at every stage. What used to take a master craftsman days to shape by hand can now be made with tighter tolerances and far greater consistency, without losing the standard of care that has defined our work since 1944.

We do not share the specifics of our machinery or how our production floor is set up. As with any serious manufacturer, that is simply part of protecting the integrity of what we build. What we can tell you is this. Every pistol that leaves this facility passes through the same standard our great grandfather set with his own hands. Built right. Tested thoroughly. Never rushed.

Our Values

What We Stand For.

01

Passion Before Profit

Jagmohan Singh Bhati has never run this company chasing money. He runs it because he believes in the work itself. That is still the standard we hold ourselves to. Every decision we make, from the materials we choose to the finish on a single pistol, starts with the question of whether it is right, not whether it is easy or cheap.

02

Precision in Everything

A firearm has no room for approximation. It either works exactly as it should or it does not work at all. That is why precision is not something we aim for once a product is finished. It is built into every single step, from design to the final inspection before a pistol ever leaves our facility.

03

Responsibility We Do Not Take Lightly

We build a product that carries real weight and real consequence. We take that seriously. From the materials we use to the way we handle certification and compliance, every part of our process reflects an understanding that trust has to be earned, and it has to be earned again with every single pistol we make.

04

Responsibility

This company has never belonged to one person or one generation. It belongs to a family that keeps choosing to carry it forward, and to every craftsman who has treated this work as more than a job. That sense of shared ownership is what has kept the standard high for over eighty years, and it is what will keep it high for the next generation too.

05

Partnership With Our Dealers

We do not sell directly to the public, and that is by design. Our dealers are the ones who build real relationships with the people who carry our firearms, and we see them as partners rather than customers. Their trust in us matters as much as any certification we hold.

06

Honesty in What We Say

We do not exaggerate what our pistols can do, and we do not hide behind vague claims. If a customer or a dealer asks us a straight question, they get a straight answer. That has always mattered more to us than a good sales pitch.

07

Learning Never Stops

The tools and techniques we use today did not exist when this company started, and the ones we use ten years from now will look different again. We stay open to that. Standing still is the one thing that would actually break a legacy like ours.

08

Made in India, For India

Every pistol we build starts and ends its journey on Indian soil. From the raw materials to the hands that shape them, we have always believed that a country capable of building its own future should not have to look outside its own borders to arm the people who protect it.

09

Consistency Over Shortcuts

We would rather deliver the same high standard on our thousandth pistol as we did on our first than take a shortcut that saves a week but costs us trust. Consistency is harder to build than a single great product, and it is the thing we protect the most.

10

Standing Behind What We Build

Our relationship with a dealer does not end at delivery. If something needs attention, we are there for it. A pistol carrying the Capricorn name is something we stand behind for as long as it is in use.
